How to use GW

Can anyone elaborate on their strategy for how to use GW?

Ok I've been getting killed with this strategy and I wonder if it's just my expansion. I've been trying Austria and move up to Germany but by the time I get there (making the attack on Berlin in turn 2) my opponents are already nipping at my heels and I don't have any armies to defend. Any thoughts on how I should change my strategy? Did I just pick a bad starting country?

Yeah it is. Expanding is VITAL as GW, so you should maximize your expansion in a way that you earn the biggest amount of troops possible.

If I were Austria, against Serbia or other lower balkans country I would go Czech, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia and wall myself. If I have troops I would send a little more to Croatia and Slovakia. Second turn you still keep attacking neutrals, just send one or two units at him for TB proposes. Remember: The more countries you get, the stronger you are...

Now I would only go berlin if it was against Greece (5k I assume) or a whole world 3k game. So berlin can guarantee my economy in lategame.

You might be asking how going berlin and going for another bunch of countries is that different... Well the principal thing is that berlin is made by infantries and the other countries by militias, so you lose way more troops going berlin than going Czech, Slovakia, Slovenia and Croatia.

Don't you realize all the units you're wasting on infantries??? GW needs to have a good amount of units, if you suicide 10 units to kill 8 and then gain another 8, the effectiveness isn't that good. First turns it's better to expand over militia cities for the higher efficiency.

Where would you guys start in 5k eu with GW?

Personnaly, I would pick the country with the most amount of reinforcements, that still fits inside the 5k budget.
My picks would be Ukraine, Greece, Poland, Austria, or possibly even Romania, depending on the situation. My all time top-pick would be Greece, as You can either attack Italy turn 1, or head upward to get all the smaller coutries like Croatia, Romania, Albania, Serbia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, etc.

Ukraine and Greece need transports for the first turn expansion, not a good deal when playing GW. Ukr would be better as Blitz (has the best rush possibilities with such a nice reinforcement number) and Greece is really strong as PD if you're able to defend your expansion properly (it's the ultimate inf spam once you get Italy's income and some cities with high number of reinf in Balkans).

Don't forget depending on whether 1v1 or w/e you can still use Belgium, Greece, Belarus. However the best is GW poland.

Belguim GW? Belarus and Greece are still debatable but Belguim? And never understimate GW Serbia! Its low prize makes it really strong.

Well, when you quoted me, you left out a very important factor: I said "Personally", meaning it is what I would do.
Still, thanks for the advice, I'll consider it, and maybe try it out sometime

Belgium can work pretty well actually in 1v1 situations, you can spam marines at the begging and keep spamming because of the western economy. Greece GW can dominate the balkans REALLY well (but personally I like IF too ) Belarus is a weird one but can still work.

I highly doubt you can beat a Serbia GW with Belguim...
The problem of Greece GW is that it would need a transport for the first turn expansion and that annoys me...
Belarus... I think it's a bit risky to play it GW.

Greece = Literally the best pick for GW in 5k games. Duel me for prove the opposite ( I must earn something from this, sorry )
