Originalna objava

Napisano od , 11.09.2011 - 11:12
Since the old thread died by Vafika quitting Afterwind and Amok came back a few days ago, I put the original post into a shorther and up-dated form.
Whoever has an idea and wants it to be added can leave a comment, I will keep this list up to date and add points which are worth it, judged by the players.

These are the actual suggestions:

1) Game-mechanics

first turn attacks
- turn blocking or rushing (attacking the enemies capital with all units) can randomly decide a game in turn one
- bigger countries will beat a smaller one in turn 1 with a 50% chance
-> forbid attacking each others cities in turn one

coalition wars
- the coalition war (cw) mechanics have several problems
- players (enemy Leaders, Officers) can start a game without the host knowing
-> allow start only if all parties agreed
- the cw aspect of Afterwind is almost dead
-> implement a system where coalitions have to fight, combined with losing points over time

strategy balancing
- this strategies are still not balanced
- Tank General needs a boost
- Lucky Bastard (LB) is the worst strategy and inferior in every case

joining a game, entering later
- it is possible to join a game without picking a country, wait a few turns and enter then, even after the maximal joining week
- if the player limit is not reached, it is difficult for a player in the game to see if there is a player who actually joined, but didnt enter yet
->if you join a game you should be forced to pick right in this turn, otherwise you should have to click 'join game' again in the next turn

2) Game-aspects

Elo rating system
- player-rankings based on SP doesn't show a players skill, the following suggestions would also increase the competition in this game and be another step to make Afterwind the leading strategy-browser-game
-> implement a ladder ranking with brackets
-> point-system similar to ELO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system)

-> brackets could be: rated 1vs1, rated team-games: 2vs2, 3vs3
-> players would have to stay in their team, if the leave it to join another they loose their rank

games with equal conditions for every participant
- since the strategies are not balanced
-> add the possibility to create games where every player has the same strategy and without upgrades
-> this option should be the standard in the ranked 1vs1 games, as a result the games will be more skill-based and the ranking more meaningful

personal chat-rooms
- coalition chat is nice but sometimes you want to speak with a group of people
-> add a function where players can create chat rooms, where the host is also the mod and can invite/kick players

profile-comments
- many people have friends in this game and would like to communicate with them in a way similar to social networks
-> add profile comments to the game
-> the profile owner would have to unlock the comments before other players can see them to prevent defamation
-> ignored players would be unable to post

extended duel-list
- nowadays, it's only possible too see the last ten duels a player fought
-> make it possible to see all duels a player ever played while adding a scrollbar to limit the duel-list's space

rep in forums
- it would be useful if you could give a person rep in the forums if he helped you with something, this will increase his reliability for other players
-> add a function to give someone 'forum-rep'

"each clan to have a flag, coat of arms and motto"
Sounds fun to me too, but this should be on very low priority at the moment.

Starting games at peace would bring more problems than solutions at the moment. Don't forget this won't affect only first turn blocks and rushes, but also first turn expansion, which has a lot of importance.

It should turn into war after the first turn if no requests. Also I think this is the easiest way to prevent first turn blocks. If not so: I would welcome if its just not possible to attack someones cities in turn one.

They can be added by Ivan, because he is the one who runs the site while amok runs the game.

Scenario / game idea's:

Custom maps:
>Since I recall Ivan saying that the Afterwind map is .svg, couldn't we be supplied with a blank version of the map or something and draw new border's on it, and upload it for a scenario? Or is this way too much work/not possible with the current server? Anyways just a thought.

Custom music:
>Well, i'm not sure how this would work, but maybe you could upload your music and have the option to change the pitch, speed, loop it etc. Sounds nifty to me! Imagine storming the shore's of Normandy with this playing!

Custom icon's / movement lines:
>I got the idea when fruit mentioned AA's having infantry as their icon's in another thread, what custom icon's would be is pretty simple- you have to use an icon file, and if possible, try and make the crappy white borders from the plagiarized google image transparent
Or they could implement a little editor with different shapes, colors, effects etc for them, sounds awesome to me! It would be cool to do this with movement lines as well.

Adding cities:
>Okay, i'm the only one who probably want's to do this, but I wanna make a map in northern Siberia dammit! maybe we could be able to add a city to the map? or at least move it?

Changing units+:
>Okay, Ivan said he doesn't like the idea of being able to change a units stats- simply put, make it so if you change a units stats you can only get half sp for a game, or none at all. Same thing. So by having a unit with 999999 atk it wouldn't be a problem as much. Or you could be able to report scenarios where playing make it so they can cheat, and have them manually changed and warned.

Forced strategy:
>It would be cool to have an option in GENERAL for a forced strategy to be played, maybe make everyone have none or LB or something. Even's the playing field and makes nerfing a little less important.

Care package:
>A Care package would basically be a little random present in the middle of no-man's land you could find that would have a goodie in it for you- maybe money, a little tiny +10sp bonus or maybe a rare unit. Something like that. But these would always be random in a scenario, or maybe even have a tick box for real matches to include these!

"Special" weekends:
>Okay, i've said this before, but maybe something like double sp or some sort of crazy game mode on weekends would be superb! Think of it, on the anniversary of The Great War have "Trench Warfare" game mode or have "Dream Theater" mode on Amok's birthday (in-side joke, we could have Jame's LaBrie as the Tanks!!!).

Overkill:
>Overkill works like this, say you have 10 tanks v 10 tanks, if you won the battle with 6 tanks or more you get an added sp bonus and a little floating word pops up and says "Overkill +30" or something. Pretty simple.

Tactics:
>I know i've said this before, but tactic's would be similar to strategy's- you choose 3 before a game, and you can use them to maneuver your stack- for instance, like you would hover over your stack, and the little stat bar pops up, but under it would be a green bar with 3 symbols for 3 tactics in it- for example, one could be "Pincer maneuver" and when you select it, it deducts an amount of money and moves all the troops into the formation in a selected area (would be represented by a dotted line circle or something).

Power-ups:
>Okay, power ups work like this: you have only two tanks but your enemy has 10, how are you supposed to win! no fear, if you pay ____ cash in a nifty little tab-shop you can buy a def or atk power-up to save your ass another turn! These could also be used for higher turn priority and arb. They must cost a hefty amount so not to be abused, and as the game progresses cost even more.

Unit in-game upgrades:
>Similar to Power-ups, these could be bought in-game as well, say your using IF but need to get a tank to Italy FAST- no fear, buy Adamantium Treads and youll move that unit 2x faster! these will cost a hefty amount I might add, and I remember Ivan speaking of "projects", maybe these could be built like that as well.

Unit Veteranism:
>Wha? is what your probably saying, Unit Veteranism works like this, say you have a tank who has just won 2 battles and survived, it gets a little star nest to it's icon indicating it has- and because it has, it get's a damage +.5 boost. Here's the chart:

2 battles won = 1 star = +.5 atk
3 battles won = 2 stars = +1 atk
5 battles won = 3 stars = +1.5 atk
7 battles won = 4 stars = +2 atk
10 battles won = 5 stars = +3 atk

~That's all I have for now, stay tuned for more crazy ideas!~

Some more game related idea:

Pre-drawn country sections
>Pretty much take this as example: Vojvodna being clearly split from real Serbia, it can be selected and added to Hungary but no reall effect happens from it, merely territory. Or another example, Preußen. But for Preußen, make the shape classical so that if someone wanted to make a napoleonic wars scenario, they could make the grand duchy of Warsaw look right. Or, if they wanted to make the German empire, added poznan to it etc.

Structures:
>I've said it before, but i've remade it. Basically, there would be highlighted areas of the map that different structures with different functions could be made- missile cilos, bridges, highways etc.

Market tab:
>Basically, there would be a tab next to units or something in-game where you can buy/sell things. You can sell territory and units. This could be a solution to the dissolution of troops idea, just sell them. But you can only get half of what you paid for.

Special attacks:
>Like this: You have 3 infantry v 5 tanks, wat do? Hold your mouse over the units, and select a little button at the end and use they're special attack! all three lob grenades and do extra damage to the tanks in the end. Special attacks take a number of time to recharge depending on the attack and unit, or you can recharge faster for a fee.

Crazy idea:
>My crazy idea...is 3d animated battles to replace the boring rolling of numbers in the battle screen after each. I should also mention, THIS SHOULD BE A PART OF THE TURN- you should get a pre-selected amount of time to review your battles before the turn really starts.

You should add tank general is pretty shit, tanks aren't boosted enough (in fact GC tanks are better), infantry even lose the +1 bonus in cities while blitzkrieg, supposedly the worst strategy for defending, keeps it.

Yes, we were considering using the ELO system, but there are many difficulties with this. For example, the player lineup in games is very fluid: players join and leave - and some of them never even meet (one already left, another joined later). Determining who played against who is very complicated. Then, we really don't want to reduce player SP at any point (currently it only happens in duels, which are optional) - this would lead to the top players hardly ever getting any SP and more often losing it. Hardly a good motivation.

I have a few, for the site:

>Icons:
Have a pre-made list of icons to stick on a forum thread (where you would see a lock or a sticky tick)
maybe a flask for projects, an arena for tourney's, a newspaper for news posts etc.

>Folders:
Be able to make folder's in clan forums, simple as that. (I think these actually aren't possible if I remember correctly, but just thought I would bring it up again.)

>Rename clan ranks/make more/icons:
Being able to rename your leader and officer would be great! I'd also like to see something where you can add ranks like "Initiate" "Sergeant" with different colors / icons etc. It would also be cool to be able to put a symbol next to your name in the clan forums like the admins and mods have.

>Graphs:
Maybe being able to make a graph would be nice- I would suggest pie/line graphs. Could be used to compare strats after each nerf or player's online average etc.

>Profile pictures using .gif and .png:
I know, we use .jpg because of bandwidth, but maybe once more bandwidth is available we can include moving gif pics and everyrone's favorite non-blur/pixelated .png pics.

>Clan+:
Could be a bought feature, but i would LOVE to see clan pages rethought, maybe have custom background's, font, colors, and have a wiki-style info box? Maybe we should require each clan to have a flag, coat of arms and motto? Sounds great to me!

>Legends:
Maybe a page for Afterwind's most valuable player's of all time? I think it would be a good way to honor them, especially people like baal. Hue :3

-Possibly more to come-

Forum icons - I hate them, sorry. No reason, just hate them.
Subforums - this would require a reworking of the forum engine, which currently doesn't allow subforums. Quite a bit of hassle.
Clan ranks, Graphs - I know this sounds like fun, but at the moment I don't think it's worth the effort. Perhaps later some day.
Profile pictures in png and gif - bandwidth has nothing to do with it actually. We don't use gif icons because they can be annoyingly animated, but more importantly because Silverlight doesn't support gif format. PNG, on the other hand, can be used, but need to check if it will work in the game - I don't think it takes file extension into account at the moment.
Clan+ - custom backgrounds and font colors are absolutely out of question; we don't want to repeat MySpace mistakes, do we? Everything else is possible already - you can make the flag, coat of arms, motto and whatever else and put them into an info box. Making them mandatory would be hugely irritating for coalitions which don't care about these things.
Legends - let's start with a forum topic or something. If it proves popular and there are people willing to put effort into this, it can be turned into a separate section.

Pre-drawn country sections - no idea what you're talking about here, sorry.
Structures - yes, that would be very cool, but we're talking about a massive new feature here.
Market tab - trading units and territories was the idea from the beginning. Unfortunately, it's too prone to abuse. Something like people playing from two accounts and passing everything to the main one. Or doing the same with a couple of buddies.
Special attacks - too much micro-management, even though the idea does seem interesting at some level.
Crazy idea - who's going to do the animation? Are you really going to watch it for every one of your battles each turn? Will it really add anything to the game (besides massively bloating the SL install)? Will people be hugely annoyed having this special battle-watching time (after watching them a thousand times and not caring anymore)? So many questions here...

You should add it as a separate system, kinda like duel SP. In order for it to work you'd need to have an ELO room or a special ELO game, just to guarantee the match is ranked. Also, ELO should only be used for 1v1's, so regular duel rules can apply and work well with this system.

I just wanted to answer like this, but Vaglneer was faster.
ELO should only count for 1vs1 games, there is no need for reducing the players SP if he loses. The ELO-System should be seperately from duels, means you can also accept a duel in an 1vs1 game, but you dont have to.
ELO would just be used for any 1vs1 game.
