Evil is powerful- some would argue it is stronger than light. It's dark clutches shadows every living thing. He rules the night and stalks the day. There will always be a constant battle between good and evil, but evil only wins when good men do nothing for the brightest light cast the largest shadows

Pretty sure lights don't actually cast shadows, like if there was a really really big light just shining on the ground there wouldn't be a shadow there

Battle of Catania
Sulla Pisentius Numantinus (White Army) (Balanced)
(1 Evocati+ 2 Veteran Legions +4 Legions +5 command)=16 strength
King Tryphon of Sicily (Direct Charge)
(9 Armies) = 9 strength
Battle Roll: 10 (+7 from greater strength =17)
Result: Victory
The slaves had a strong position on the high ground of Mt Enna, a still active volcano that dominated western sicily, and on these slopes they fought bravely for their freedom. With much chanting and shield beating they launched a wild and fearsome charge directly down into the romans, making their line buckle but only that, roman discipline was harder than iron. Pisentius watched as they struggled against the solid wall of shield and armor tiring themselves. He waited patiently as their initial fanatic rage and energy was spent against the regular legions. The fresh veterans were then unleashed and now Rome's superiority became evident. These men had fought far more terrifying opponents such as germanics and celtiberians and triumphed. Now they slew all before them with such ruthlessness and determination the slaves knew they had no hope and fled but none could escape.
Pisentius ordered Tryphon be crucified first in front of his men. To his credit he did not beg but he did scream. Then the rest, thousands of crosses adorned the mountain by the end of the week. The social order in sicily would never be questioned again.

Battle Roll: 8 (+8 from greater strength+4 from tactical counter =20)
Result: Decisive Victory
Pompeius circulated a rumor with false orders to his agents that the Roman Navy was under repairs at the Lipari islands. This predictably and intentionally fell into the hands of the pirate Athanasios. Hearing that the roman fleet was now quite massive and under the command of the famed Pompeius he felt this was his only chance to win. Launching an attack, he found nothing but a few dummy ships. The entire roman fleet emerged around the other side of the island and launched a devastating assault. Some of the pirates fought, ost tried to flee proving they were not so brave when facing an enemy who can fight back. Athanasios flagship the Scylla burst into flames after a direct hit from multiple catapults, he himself was burned alive. The pirate threat was finished.

Result: Bloody Victory
The three powerful cities of Crete; Knossos, Cydonia and Gortyna had been in civil war as a method of exerting full authority. After his victory in Macedon, Fenix had sent several ambassadors, but the island remained embroiled in war. The instability created a perfect environment and haven for piracy.
When Cocles landed and demanded they surrender all the pirates, the Cretens obviously refused, having demonstrated a long history of repelling invaders (as well as liking the pirates for the gold they brough to their island). With no other choice, Cocles conducted a harsh and campaign of siege assaults and clearing of mountain holdouts. These methods were extremely costly but necessary to defeat them in the alotted time. Eventually, the entire island was subjugated and pirates crucified.

Battle of Asculum
Faustus Caecilius (4nic) (Balanced)
(1 Evocati+ 1 Veteran +2 Legions +6 command)=13 strength
Judacilius (Direct Charge)
(5 Armies) = 5 strength
Battle Roll: 12 (+8 from greater strength = 20)
Result: Decisive Victory
Gaius Judacilius was a native of Asculum in Picenum, and one of the chief generals of the allies in the Social War. He is known to be the ablest and most resolute leaders of the insurrection. He first commanded in Apulia where he was very successful: Canusium and Venusia, with many other towns, opened their gates to him, and some which refused to obey him he took by force. He executed the Roman nobles who were made prisoners, and enrolled the common people and slaves among his troops.
Judacilius joined with with the rest of the socii at Mount Falerinus, where they surprised Caecilius, who retreated to Firmum. When Caecilius had in his turn gained a victory over a socii army plundering the region he laid siege to Picenum, Judacilius, anxious to save his native town, hastened to the city with eight cohorts.
He sent word beforehand to the inhabitants that when they saw him advancing at a distance they should make a sally against Caecilius' besieging force, so that the enemy should be attacked on both sides at once. The inhabitants were afraid to do so, and a massive and bloody battle ensued between the two forces.
Judacilius nevertheless cut his way through the enemy's lines and into the city. However his plan of seriously wounding the opposing force had failed. He had succeeded only in barricading his forces in with the defenders. Finding that the city could not possibly hold out much longer, and resolved not to survive its fall, he first put to death all his enemies, including those of Asculum he thought had discouraged the townsfolk from rallying to the fight, and then erected a funeral pyre within the precincts of the chief temple in the city. Judacilius then feasted with his friends, and, after taking poison, he laid himself down on the pile, and commanded his friends to set it on fire. The town shortly thereafter fell into the hands of Caecilius and was severely punished for its resistance. The leaders of the insurrection were summarily executed, and the others were driven naked from the town.
This was the end of the Social War.
