Why do people debate on AtWar?

Half the time I log onto AtWar there are people arguing and bickering in the main lobby chat about a variety of topics, people in the forums try to bring up arguments for religion, politics, and history.

Trying to "debate" on an online game like this is pretty much going on Call of Duty and asking people for their opinions there. You're going to get bullshit.

People are free to try to express and argue for their beliefs, don't get me wrong; but don't be surprised when a bunch of dissidents, trolls, and morons decide they want to join the fun.

There are so many better places to talk about these things, 4chan's /pol/ board would even be a better start.

Well, off-topic debates and arguments are worthless and stupid. Debates on an issue related to atWar (like an option addition/removal, etc.) is plausible, when held from people taking it way too far..... (which Goblin failed to do )

There's a notable difference between a simple question and highly sensitive and controversial topics such as religion and politics..

Because in this game exists different groups of people with different view of different things. AW is highly diverse and of course debates would arise. The dissidents, trolls, and morons just add to the fun. If people REALLY wanted to debate something seriously, they would pm each other.

I'm just saying that people shouldn't be surprised when their hopes of debating are crushed by idiots or ignorantinmus, and therefore shouldn't even take things seriously here.

Well you deserved it. Just because you dont like or you dont make sense of a specific activity, a group of people engage in, doesnt mean you get to declare superiority and call them stupid. Especially if we are talking about debates in a diverse international community like atwar on subjects like religion, politics and whatnot, in which you always walk out a winner.You develop your critical thinking, improve your communication skills and always learn new things, like that some lunatics still believe the earth is flat and even gather more statistical data to validate some of your theories, like that all americans are fat, obnoxius, brainwashed fags or that all muslims are warmongering, subhuman backwarded apes

Atwar game is about war, war involve politcs and economy (politics lead wars, economy fuel it). Hence political games like UN, RP and GoT, and in rare ocassions economic games and debates.

But you should not avoid politics and religion as you said above, thats nothing wrong, it does divide people, but division is not always bad. Like all other things - politics and religion have pros and cons. Ying-Yang.

People debate because people bring up topics. Most people have a respect for others (even when debates get fueled). I might disagree with Khal and Gandalf on political issues and while it may seem like I am an evil capitalist pig bent on global domination and they might be seen as uneducated evil communist bent on destroying all wealth, there is a layer of respect where we understand those things are fallacies. We enjoy our debates. We enjoy debating, we enjoy bouncing ideas off of one another and the community that obviously has an interest in it. It is not a big deal as you make it. While some may go over the top at times (Unleashed, I'm talkin to you!!!) it's just what At War is. We don't need 4chan or any other site because we have At War. And that is the simplest truth. At the end of the day we might never agree on a single thing. But at least we agree to disagree on At War forums.
