Hi Everyone!

We are currently looking for people to help us with game development!
Successful candidates will get access to the game source code and will be in charge of things like fixing existing bugs and adding new features and improvements to atWar.
The main technologies we use for the game are JavaScript, C#, PHP and MySQL.

We are looking for developers who know both JavaScript and C# on at least an intermediate to high level. Which means no script kiddies, thanks, but someone who actually worked on a project of a significant scale. Please don't bother PMing if you have just started learning these languages and haven't completed any real world projects.

If you believe that you have enough expertise in this area, please PM me your CV (don't worry, it will be kept private), ideally with your most recent portfolio.
Along with this, we kindly ask you to complete a simply test task, which involves the following:

Citiraj:
A code in JavaScript that loads an image, slices it into X and Y number of pieces horizontally and vertically, then shuffles them and displays the result. A bit like jigsaw puzzle thing. Most importantly, it needs to be 100% your code. Please don't try and mash up something quickly, as we will be looking at the quality of code first and foremost. If you could do the same in C# - all the better! Thanks in advance for taking your time.

Depending on the outcome, if we manage to find a successful candidate, we will discuss the compensation and other arrangements privately, based on experience and the amount of time you will be able to dedicate to your new role.

EDIT: Please don't post the test tasks here, use PM, and we will not accept applicants without any CV. Thanks!

Best of luck to you all,
Amok

Learnt one thing from AW over these years - Never stop protesting until you get what you were promised:

Two years ago, map editors protested. In response, Amok guaranteed that the map editor was 99.7% done. Royalists stepped in, peace then restored, and you all know what happened next; Few months ago, Aristokrats cheated and won the season, leaving the AW community raged. Zone, the former leader of Aristokrats, spoke on behalf of the clan, guaranteed that they would concede, and were prepared to give up the medal. Pacifists stepped in, peace then restored, and you all know what happened next; Now, Amok, in response to immense public pressure, looks for senior no paid programmers to advance his own business. At the end of the day, past experience told us that Amok might, after the outcry was over, claim that he cannot trust any of these code newbies, and stay away from us again.

Lesson: Don't let naivety stop the strike.

Seems like for every little bit of improvement a strike was needed

Alright so from the looks of the problem, it is a fairly doable image parsing problem. I'll try actually solving it maybe this weekend, but here are my thoughts on how to solve it, in C++:

1. Include all the necessary permissions such as "using namespace std", "#include <string>", or whatever you'll need.
2. Create a function that takes an input of an image, and returns a 2d array. Your main function will run this function.
3. In that function, create two variables: newrandx and newrandy. These will be the new x and y values after the shuffling.
4. Create two more variables, called xheight and yheight. Parse the image and set these to the value of the image's height and width respectively.
5. From the image that was inputted, parse it into a 2d array, with its x and y values being the dimensions. This array can be called Image.
6. Create a double "for loop" like:
for(int i = 0; i < xheight; i++) {
for(int j = 0; i < yheight; j++) {
y = list(range(0, yheight))
a = list(range(0, xheight))
Image[j][i] = [y][a]
random.shuffle(y)
random.shuffle(a)
}
}
7. In your main function, use plot or print or some imaging library to output Image as an actual image and not just as a 2d array.
8. Run the program, and see if it worked. If it didn't, debug it and try to fix it. Use stack overflow if needed.

Btw, the little explanation I put up there is not complete, so you can't just submit it to Amok and say you completed it :D. Only if you are actually familiar with code will you understand what I wrote. Hopefully a bunch of people will apply for Amok's thing, and we will have a nice team of volunteers who will fix this site .

Servers are perfectly fine when they are not being DDoS'ed.

You must be aware that crashes did not start with ddos but way before that. sure now it's impossible to play with ddos but even before that it was so hard and frustating people stoped playing cws and duels because they lost elo because game could'nt stop crashing sometimes 10 seconds before turn end. you get a game crash at least two time agame when you play. and we you specate a game it crashes every turn. it has been like that the last year and espeically recently (last half year)

Yes, exactly. To those saying the connection issues are nonexistent. Get your head out of your ass. It may not be from the "servers", but some kind of coding/programming issue has been causing disconnects from the game/website, pretty much ever since hml5 was rolled out.

So much truth to this. Some annoying kind of server bug has been plaguing me where the map won't fully load, and at times even my armies will not appear at all. TO manage to even take my turns, I've been forced to do a shift where I play one game in Chrome, then the next on FIrefox, because if I don't the map wil literally not load, and at times refuse to accept my end turn. Other times it will randomly disconnect, despite everything else running perfectly on the browser.

Here is a post from over a year ago. The site/game has been disconnecting players for a long time. It was a bad
problem long before the DDoS began.
Perhaps it has something to do with the way the game is coded?

Hello,

I am currently wondering why the hell people actually still stick to this game? (Including me). I mean this game has serious problems and I honestly have no idea what the people are doing to actually fix those problems? You guys can shout all you want that this game wont grow because of the less people and doing all you can. Let me tell you something about that.

We have currently around 200 people online at its highest peak a day. freaking 200 people... and even those 200 cant be controlled by 3 admins? (honestly Sun doesn't really count into game admin but more of an advertising admin, so 2 admins) and how many mods? You want this game to grow, yet the most important thing and actually the thing that is holding this all together is having humangous problems and I think alot of people are starting to get tired of the absence of those who can fix all of this. I mean, I dont know if you people actually understand how annoying and unsatisfying it is for the people to play in a server like this where you need to take in mind every fucking turn 'what if the server disconnects/crashes'.

Let me sum you up what exactly happends when people think that.
- Turns getting rushed, which leads to an uglier and less inconsistent gameplay. Its just unsatisfying to play or to watch.
- Games fail.
- People don't hold anymore in CW's because they dont want anyone to suddenly disconnect and remake all over again
- People end their turn in the middle of the turn so they can save their moves if the game dc's, not to mention forgetting to save everytime you make a move...
- People play less turn based games, because people want to do their games as fast as possible, scared for the disconnection passing by any moment.
- People lose their interest in remaking a game they hosted for 5 times now because of the disconnects.

People go offline, perhaps stop the game because its not a simple game anymore and just don't like it as a whole anymore. We are charged for things we didn't ask for, things we didnt want and things we certainly dont need.

And I may sound unthankful, disrespectful or even like a whine ass, but seriously its time that you take control of this game, how it should be. I feel like (my own opinion) we aren't listened too in any kind of way, I feel like we are getting ignored, problems are getting put in the silentbox and people are even getting punished for standing up for all these flaws.

Not to even mention the amount delay of the map editor version. It is seriously getting a hold of this game and I think it might even cost us all the game if this last like this for to long.

If you cant handle it, atleast say it so we know what's upp and we can help you. Because honestly it seems like you guys could use some help.

And this was mostly about the server disconnections, there are still way way way way to much things that need to be fixed. Lets atleast start with the most important one?

#SaveAtwar

Thanks. "

Is amok expecting people to do this shit for free? If so.. this is actually laughable.

Even if they paid as little as, say $500 for the project of getting map editor to work... atleast its something to motivate the dev.

No self repecting dev would do it for nothing. More likely to attract script kiddies that want to fuck up the site that way..

And think about it... He's taken 2 years to introduce the new map editor, he's basically admitting he's stuck by asking for help... yet he gets the profit from the game shared between him and ivan....if they dont pay, he's basically asking someone else to do his homework for him while he takes the credit...

Because we were lied to for 2 solid years about the new map editor delivery date.

Because you would really expect the people that made the game to be capable of maintaining it.

Because they value their game at $100,000 but arent willing to hire a proper dev on a proper project fee.

Need more raisins?

Dont get me wrong... Its nice to see Amok actually doing something about the problems the game has now... but its taken him an awful long time to get to this point, and it just so happens he did it after the "silly strike". Like, why now? Because the ddos is more frequent? Because the game is starting to lose money and he wants to maintain his passive income?

When problems are actually fixed... then you can demand everyone be happy and suck admin dick... until then we're entitled to be as scepticle as we like...
